Le 26 Septembre de très tôt, notre équipe dévouée de l’Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM) a fait face à une épreuve impensable. Un gang armé a envahi l’hôpital, faisant usage de violence qui a profondément secoué notre sanctuaire de soins. Ils ont tiré sans discernement, ciblant même l’unité intensive de soins néonataux, un lieu où reposent nos plus petits patients.

Notre équipe est rapidement passée à l’action, transportant autant de patients que possible vers des lieux sûrs et cherchant un abri. Heureusement, aucun patient ni employé n’a été blessé durant l'attaque, mais le bilan émotionnel de cette attaque demeure. Le résultat déchirant a été que près de la moitié des patients hospitalisés à ce moment-là ont fui, y compris des personnes gravement malades qui avaient besoin d'un accès continu à des soins médicaux vitaux.

Notre Engagement Continu Envers les Soins

Depuis lors, Zanmi Lasante (ZL) travaille sans relâche pour protéger et prendre soin des membres de notre équipe et de nos patients. Nous avons localisé avec diligence les patients qui ont fui et veillé à ce qu'ils reçoivent les soins dont ils ont besoin urgemment.

Malgré les dangers, notre équipe incroyable continue de se présenter chaque jour, traversant des zones en proie à des conflits pour atteindre leur lieu de travail. Ils portent non seulement leurs propres préoccupations mais aussi le bien-être de leurs patients sur leurs épaules. C'est cet engagement extraordinaire qui garde nos portes ouvertes et garantit que HUM reste un refuge pour les Haïtiens les plus vulnérables.

"Miss Junie a passé la majeure partie de la matinée suivant l'attaque à essayer de convaincre les parents de ne pas retirer leurs bébés de l'unité de soins intensifs néonatals. Elle était terrifiée à l'idée que ces bébés prématurés puissent mourir sans les soins spécialisés prodigués à HUM."
